My Background

My early schooling was under State Syllabus. From 8th Standard onwards I have been studying in Technical School. First two years I found it was very difficult for me as all the subjects were in English and I couldn’t catch up the things fast. Subjects like Humanities was seemed very tough as it requires lot of writing.

I failed in 9th grade, and it really challenged me and I decided to study and perform academically well.

I changed all my daily routines started reviewing the topics early in the morning, started reading English newspapers and my academics performance became much better and I stood one among the top 5 students in the class.

I understood that Learning is a Continuous Process, and it gives lots of value and respect and helps to help others as well.

I completed my 10th grade (Technical Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate) with first class and continued my studies in IHRD for my Plus 1 and Plus 2. I successfully completed my Plus 2 with first class.

In Technical school we had Electronics, Electrical and Computer Subjects to study instead of Hindi, Biology subjects. Because of this I learned the programming languages like BASIC, FORTRAN etc.

financial struggle

My life was not that easy. My family was going through big financial crisis during my Plus Two (Pre University) studies. Soon after the completion, I decided to find a job and thought it was a full stop for my studies as I have to take care of my family, but my father wanted me to continue studies even though he had challenges in the financial front. One of my schoolteachers who was also my neighbour insisted me to continue my studies and he told to join Polytechnic Diploma.

Finally, I got admission in a Government Polytechnic College and continued my studies.
After completion of my Diploma initially I got a job in a Knitting mill in Tirupur as a technician, I joined there but the work was mainly of mechanical in nature (repairing the machines etc.,) it was not aligned with my aspiration, and I decided to move away in a week’s time as I want to be in core technical area. I went to my mother’s place and with lot of struggles, I later found a job without salary in Philips Service Center as a technician for gaining the experience, I learned lot of things in Electronics Circuits and post 6 months my father insisted me to continue my studies in Engineering.

I got admission under government quota in an Engineering College after successfully clearing the entrance and continued my studies as a day scholar from my home.

During my diploma and engineering period I conducted lots of seminars and classes as I enjoyed teaching a lot.

my personal development journey

I was a very active member in National Service Scheme (NSS) in Diploma and Engineering and attended multiple programs, serviced the society, and took charge of the first NSS Secretary in the Engineering college.

The experience in NSS given me lots of courage and skills to connect with people and a serving attitude to help the people and society.

start of corporate professional journey

I completed my Engineering as a college topper and came out with 2 Offers from Large Multi-National Companies. I joined the Corporate Sector in the year 2007.

There was opportunity for me to be a Lecturer post completion of my Engineering, but I want to get experienced in the practical aspects of what I studied before I wear the hat of a teacher, mentor, and a trainer.

I joined in a multinational company as a Design and Development Engineer in Embedded Java Development for Multimedia systems. The trainings and the experience has given a lot of learnings to take the career forward.

2008 recession and joing government sector

The recession in 2008 really was a nightmare for all the professionals in IT industry as job were losing for the people left right center. Though there were no threat to our job, but it was a painful experience. As I was a major contributor to the financial support to my family, I want to be in a firm job wherein there is not threat during recession or pandemic etc.,

I started thinking of getting a government job opportunity and landed a job in a Public Sector Bank as a Probationary Officer in 2010.

We were posted in Branches as we are from technical backgrounds all the technology related aspects including user management, patch updates, system backup, support during IT audits etc., has been assigned to us. The experience was wonderful.

journey towards cyber security

In 2012 Bank selected us to and posted in the Banks Department of Information Technology (DIT) and started as a Web Application developer using ASP.Net with C#.

During my service at Bank’s DIT I experienced multiple audits in Cyber Security, ISO 27001 and participated in DR drills etc., Information Security team was next to our Development team and I had a very close interaction with them on a regular basis for the application security requirements and other related Security functions.

After multiple research and discussion with industry colleagues, I came to know that a career in Cyber Security is more sustainable, rewarding, long term and in fact a recession free career. Hence, I decided to be in Cyber Security industry.

One of my colleagues suggested me to complete Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) Certification and totally move towards Cyber Security. I started studying the same along with network technologies and cleared CISSP and finally the General Manager decided to move me to Information Security Division.

I was privileged and honored to work in various areas of Information Security areas including solution architect, governance, the implementation of RBI Cyber Security Frameworks, undergone multiple trainings, completed certifications in Security Domains. I supported authoring policies, newsletters, Security booklet and conducted trainings and awareness sessions in Security.

Also received Skoch Awards for the Bank for the successful implementation of Security Solutions.

back to corporate

I resigned from the Bank as a Senior Manager later to join Corporate to have global exposure in Cyber Security areas.

It was not an easy journey form public sector to Corporate as I faced multiple challenges in placing me and getting calls for job offers. I took coaching to understand how to place myself and provide the best service to the industry, post that I came out with multiple offers simultaneously as a manager role in Cyber Security.

I got another opportunity as a Chief Manager IT Security in another public sector bank, wherein I had a chance to work on the Security area as part of Banks amalgamation with another large Bank.

I moved back to Corporate and experienced in handling large Cyber Security Projects. I take multiple trainings across the organization in various aspects of Cyber Security including Cloud Security.
